For a number of years cats have outnumbered dogs as the
most common species of pet. Cat ownership numbers continue
to rise yet the number of feline veterinary visits is declining.
Many shelters handle more cats than dogs yet often their
enrichment and post adoption support programs focus on
dogs more than cats. Cats have long been referred to as
the misunderstood and under-served pet species.
We’ve been educating people about cat behavior and
proposing guidelines for behaviorally healthy felines since
the early 1990s, and most recently with our DVDs “Helping Kitty Be Good By Creating a Cat Friendly Home” and “Helping Kitties Co-Exist”. We’ve lectured at APDT,
Groom Expo, AAHA and other veterinary conferences on cat
behavior, written about feline behavior wellness in JAVMA
and now we want to help more people learn about cat behavior.
We are offering the first
in a series of teleclasses/webcasts on cat behavior. This
first session will provide the basis for the rest of the
series. If you don’t have the information contained
in our first class “The Nature of Cats”, you’ll
have no foundation upon which to base improved handling
skills, environmental enrichment, problem prevention and
problem solving which will be topics for subsequent classes
in our series on Feline Behavior.
“THE NATURE OF CATS”, a 1.5
hour teleclass, simultaneous webcast will introduce you
to the behavioral world of the cat and provide a foundation
for subsequent classes on handling skills, environmental
enrichment, problem prevention and problem solving. You’ll
learn about the intriguing, flexible feline social system,
differences between canine and feline communication signals,
the truth regarding common myths about cat behavior that
may surprise you and come away more equipped to see the
world through a cat’s eyes.
Whether you are a dog trainer who often encounters cats
in homes with dogs, a veterinarian who wants to cater to
cats a bit more and attract more cat owning clients, a
veterinary technician who wants to be better equipped to
educate cat owners, or shelter staff who want your facility
to do better by the cats in your care, this Feline Behavior
series is for you.
